The Book Theif is set in the time of WW2 when Hitler and the nazi party ruled Germany. At this time the nazi party and Hitler were spreading propiganda through germany discrimininating homosexuals, Jews, soviet prisnors of war were second to only the jews in terms of deaths around 3.3 million.

Molching is a fictional city that is the setting of the Book Thief. It is based off of a real town called Olching in Munich which is where Nazi is roumered to have started as that is where Hitler first tried to rise to power. It is also supposed to be located not too far off from the Dachua concentration camp, Germany’s first concentration camp that was made under Adolf Hitler’s ruling around 1933.
